Single storey factory building not exceeding 400m² is not required to be provided with fire alarm system unless otherwise specified by the SCDF. This manual fire alarm system (break glass type) is not required to be connected to an approved alarm monitoring company. Warehouse building of 2 to 4 storeys and having a total floor area (per storey) of greater than 1000m² is required to provide manual type of fire alarm system. The main reason is that the building is small, hence escape to the exterior via exit doors would be straight forward.
